Abstract

Concerning potential impacts to archaeological resources associated with the bluff as a result of channel widening, consultation between the Department, Mr. Paul Rubenstein of the Savannah COE and Dr. Larry Babits of Armstrong State College has led to the determination that the boundaries for the proposed National Register of Historic Places property along the river front would be consistent with the bluff edge in this area (10-foot contour line/see attached map). In consultation with Department road design and bridge design engineers a wall has been designed to preclude the necessity for cutting into the existing bluff edge. Based on these design considerations the proposed project including bridge, road, and channel widening will not affect any archaeological resources, will not require any land from the proposed National Register of Historic Places property and will not, therefore, create any effects to NRHP eligible sites.
