Abstract

The proposed project is located on the Atlanta Plateau of the Central Upland (LaForge, 1925). The northern end of the project is quite close to the Dahlonega Plateau at its border at Long Branch Creek. The terrain is one of rolling hills, mostly under a mixed hardwood or pine cover, with the exception of the Chestatee River floodplain. Traces of old field terraces can be seen along the alignment, but very little of the project is in pasture and virtually none under cultivation. Geologically the project is within the Tallulah Belt of the Carolina Series which is composed of micaceous schists, micaceous gneiss, and granitic gneiss.
