Abstract

On April 17, 1991, Savannah District archaeologists Judy Wood and David Crampton conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the area to be impacted by the proposed construction of a second satellite communications training facility (SATCOM2) on Fort Gordon in Richmond County, Georgia. The facility will include of a building, parking lot, and associated drainage improvements on a 5-acre parcel in the cantonment area. Archival research identified no known archaeological resources within or adjacent to the proposed project area and that the area had been heavily disturbed by the construction and subsequent demolition of World War II temporary buildings. Pedestrian survey and testing confirmed the disturbed nature of the tract. No cultural resources were identified.
