Abstract

In July of 2001, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted an intensive archeological survey of approximately 132 ha (327 ac) at Magnolia Springs State Park in Jenkins County, Georgia. The survey was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of an 18hole golf course on the property. Ten archeological sites were found. The majority consist of remnants of late nineteenth to early twentieth century houses. The prehistoric sites consist of relatively small lithic scatters that have low artifact density. No temporally diagnostic artifacts were recovered on these sites. Due to low research potential or poor integrity, none of the sites are considered to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. No additional archeological studies are recommended prior to golf course construction.
