Abstract

The proposed project is part of the Georgia Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, which was established to fund infrastructure projects that enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school safely. These projects are designed not only to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and access in and near school zones, but also to encourage children to adopt healthy and active lifestyle activities from an early age. The infrastructure improvements included in this proposed project would be undertaken within existing right-of-way and would be implemented at the following locations: Appling Middle School and King-Danforth Elementary Sidewalks with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible ramps on Eastview Avenue, Sulphur Springs Road and Walnut Creek Road from Shurling Drive to Mafiel Drive. Crosswalks and stop bars at intersections on Eastview Avenue, Sulphur Springs Road and Walnut Creek Road. Multi-use trail from Dublin and Sparkle Avenues intersection to King-Danforth Elementary School. Six solar-powered radar speed signs with software at Shurling Drive, Maynard Street and Fort Hill Street. Riley Elementary School Sidewalks with ADA accessible ramps on Greenbriar Road East from Edna Place to Brinwood Drive; on Brinwood Drive from Greenbriar Road to the school entrance; on James Street; and connecting the existing sidewalk on Greenbriar Road to the school Crosswalks and stop bars at Greenbriar Road East and Brinwood Drive; at James Street and Greenbriar Road, and at Brinwood Drive across from the school entrance Crosswalk on Greenbriar Road west of Edna Place Road between natural walking path on north side and the existing sidewalk on the south side Concrete cross-drain pipe on the south side of Greenbriar Road west of Edna Place along existing sidewalk facility with final grading, grassing and four solar-powered radar speed signs with software on Edna Place Road and Burton Avenue Barden Elementary School and Burghard Elementary School Sidewalks with ADA accessible ramps on Bonnie Avenue, Virginia Avenue and Bethesda Avenue Crosswalks and stop bars at intersections on Bonnie Avenue, Virginia Avenue and Bethesda Avenue; on Bloomfield Road Extension (Rocky Creek Road to city limit), and on Nisbet Drive (from Reynolds Drive to Roselyn Drive) ADA accessible ramps on Anderson Drive near Barden Elementary Sidewalk/bikeway connecting Anderson Drive sidewalk to Barden Elementary School drop-off area Four solar-powered radar speed signs with software (Bloomfield Road, Rocky Creek Road).
