Abstract

In July 1997, TRC Garrow Associates conducted Phase II testing investigations at 9HL431, a historic bridge crossing situated within the floodpool of Reservoir Alternative 9 on Cedar Creek in Hall County, Georgia. The site was discovered during a Phase I cultural resources survey of three proposed reservoir alternatives in Hall County. Phase I results suggested that 9HL431 may be a historic mill site. The results of the Phase II study, however, indicate that the site is a bridge crossing that was probably in use during the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century. It is recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Archaeological clearance to construct Reservoir Alternative 9 is recommended.
