Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Chattahoochee Connector water main replacement corridor on August 10, 11, 18 and 24, 1995. The project corridor is approximately 6,700 feet in length and 50 feet in width and for the most part follows the path of an existing sewer line. The corridor is located in the Cochran Shoals portion of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and runs between the Interstate North Parkway and Columns Drive. As the study corridor is located in a National Park, it was necessary to obtain an Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) permit before beginning work. Permit No. 95 CHAT/SCRO 002 was issued. The survey located a single archaeological site, 9Co391. The site does not appear to meet the minimum standards for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places and no further study of the site or project area is recommended.
