Abstract

This project is a phase I archaeological survey within the APE corridor of a proposed multi-use trail at Columbus State University. The trail will incorporate some existing sidewalks and bridges. It is intended to connect with a defunct rail line in the Rails To Trails Project. Much of the APE has been graded, filled and/or paved due to the recent addition of facilities at CSU, including the Cunningham Center parking lot and a soccer field along with its parking lots. A total of five shovel tests were excavated along the proposed corridor just west of Lindsay Creek. This is the only portion of the APE that doesn't already have existing disturbance that would compromise the integrity of an archaeological site. None of the shovel tests produced any artifacts, and only one had relatively undisturbed soil.
