Abstract

The National Park Service Southeastern Archaeological Center at Tallahassee, Florida, working with a request by the Corps of Engineers at Mobile, Alabama, contracted with the Department of Anthropology of Florida State University, Tallahassee, to make a survey of the Archaeological resources of the Lake Sidney Lanier area. The emphasis of this survey was on the Chattahoochee River Corridor from Buford Dam to the Cumming Crossing of Georgia 20. A reconnaissance of this two and one-half mile corridor on August 28 and 30 did yield site information as three areas containing prehistoric cultural material were located. A complete foot survey of this area proved to be impractical due to the. season in which we attempted to perform it. Spring and Summer bring with them a very dense coverage of grass, weed, briars and brambles, making it difficult to survey outside of roads or plowed fields.
