Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present a synthetic cultural historical overview of the area encompassed by the Richard B. Russell Multiple Resource Area, which lies in the Inner Piedmont portion of the Savannah River in Elbert and Hart Counties, Georgia, and Abbeville and Anderson Counties, South Carolina (Figure 1). This report was written under Contract Number C-55095 (79) between Thunderbird Research Corporation and Interagency Archeological Services, Atlanta, and is the end product of a multi-phase contract which included paleoenvironmental, early man, floodplain, and site testing studies. The author of this report, William M. Gardner, served as principal investigator on all of the Thunderbird Research Corporation's investigations.
