Abstract

In October 1988, Robert S. Webb (principal investigator) and Keith McRae (technician) conducted an intensive coverage cultural resource survey of approximately 1.85 hectares (4.59 acres) in Columbia County, Georgia for Oglethorpe Power Corporation. The project area is destined to become a substation site. The project dictates compliance with Section 106 of the Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (Public Law 89-665; 80 STAT.915; 16 U.S.C. 470) as amended. A review of the state site files and the National Register of Historic Places revealed no previously recorded sites within the survey area. Similarly, a review of historic maps and aerial photographs revealed no pre1940 structural sites or "old house" clearings within the project area. Background research, surface survey and shovel testing resulted in the discovery of 2 isolated finds.
