Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the connection of the water system of Safety Rest Area 105 (located along I--95) to the water system of Glynn County. The new water main would run south of an existing sewer line ana extend from Jetport Road westerly to 1-95. The total project length would be approximately 1143 meters (3,750 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was conducted for the entire project area in May 1996 under Project IM-95-1(151), Glynn County (P.I. # 511270), the construction of the sewer line noted above. An archaeological survey (Level III) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and --tale Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. it is decided, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archeological resources or are eligible for inclusion in the NRHP that the project conforms to that described above.
