Abstract

On August 9, 1977, the author and Lawrence Waters performed reconnaissance survey of the proposed extension of Forest Service Road 797. Only the new construction path was field checked. The segment scheduled for reconstruction is situated in an area of slope considered too great to offer potential. New construction begins at station 191+00 and continues for 11,550 feet to station 306+50. Cultural material was located in Hickory Nut Gap; however, this area has been destroyed by previous logging activity. The Hickory Nut Gap Site has been designated as FS-GL--l. No cultural material was located in the proposed path of Forest Service 797 extension. Therefore, clearance is recommended.
