Abstract

Between September 1983 and November 1984, Robert Webb, Robert Hunter and Keith Reiner of CTA Environmental, Inc. conducted a 100 percent coverage cultural resource pedestrian survey of the proposed Oglethorpe Power Corporation Tallulah Lodge-Helen transmission corridor in White and Habersham Counties, Georgia. A review of the state site files and the National Register of Historic Places revealed one previously recorded site in the proposed impact zone (9Wh4). Although this site could not be relocated during the survey (presumably destroyed by private building), eight other sites were discovered through surface and subsurface survey. Five sites appear to be related to historic period agricultural/silvicultural or distilling (moonshining) activities. Two sites are unaffiliated prehistoric surface scatters and one is a prehistoric isolated find. None of these sites exhibits potential for the recovery of significant archeological data and full cultural clearance is recommended.
