Abstract

The proposed Northwoods substation is a 3.8 acre tract of land at the intersection of Shackelford and Sweetwater roads in Gwinnett County, Georgia (Figure 1). Situated atop a hill, the proposed site is predominately open pasture (Plates 1-3). Bare patches in the grass allowed sufficient ground visibility to determine that the area has been eroded down to the basal red clay. A bank profile along Sweetwater Road (Plate 0) confirmed this observation. The four boundaries, the southeastern corner, and portions of the center of the property were walked, with Donald Smith serving as field assistant. No artifacts nor any other features suggestive of aboriginal or significant. historical activity were noted. There does not appear to be anything of National Register significance at the site of the proposed Northwoods substation that will be affected by the planned construction.
