Abstract

During June of 1986, Robert S. Webb conducted a cultural resource survey of 11.66 kilometers (7.0 miles) of the proposed Oglethorpe Power Corporation's Oak Hill 115/12 kV transmission line corridor and 4.8 hectare (12 acres) substation site. The proposed project is in Newtow County, Georgia, near Porterdale and the Yellow River. A review of the state site files and the National Register of Historic Places revealed that no previously recorded cultural resources are located within the proposed corridor or substation site. Surface survey and shovel testing revealed an early historic dump (OPC 3-1), two historic house sites (OPC 3-2 and OPC 3-3) and one prehistoric lithic and ceramic plowzone site (OPC 3-4). Two isolated finds were also recovered.
