Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed Cumming Marketplace Boulevard Development Site in Forsyth County, Georgia, was conducted to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess each resources' significance. The project area covers approximately 22.7 hectares, and is adjacent to Lake Alice to the west, approximately 60 meters south-southeast of Georgia 400, and approximately 30 meters north-northeast of Buford Dam Road. Three archeological sites (Sites 9F0523, 9F0525, and 9F0526) were recorded during the current study. As a result of the survey, prehistoric activities from the Middle Archaic period were identified, as well as a historic occupation from the early to middle 20th century. Following the survey, Sites 9F0523, 9F0525 and 9F0526, were recommended ineligible for the NRHP.
