Archaeological Resources Survey for the Bay Creek Substatio, Gwinnett and Walton Counties, Georgia

Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the proposed Bay Creek Substation in Gwinnett and Walton Counties, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The total area surveyed consisted of three tracts totaling approximately 8.62 hectares (21.3 acres) and four corridors of varying lengths totaling approximately 2650 meters (1. 7 miles). The areas surveyed encompass parts of existing transmission line right-of-ways. The project area lies north of State Route 81 and east of Windsor, Georgia on the dividing line between Gwinnett and Walton counties. No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the pro1ect area boundaries through background research at the State Site Files Database maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the State Archives. No archaeological sites were identified during fieldwork. One (1) isolated find was located in the project area. This isolated find is considered ineligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
