Abstract

This document is provided in response to a request for proposal by the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Directorate of Public Works (DPW), Fort Gordon, to perform Phase II testing of eleven sites. These investigations have the objectives of definitively determining the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of each site. The work outlined is in accordance with and in partial fulfillment of the U.S. Army obligations under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (PL-65-515), the Archeological and Historic Preservation Act (AHPA) of 1974, as amended (PL-93-291), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (PL-90-190), Executive Order 11593, Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment, American Indian Religious Freedoms Act (AIRF A) and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Research objectives for this project include: The eleven sites to be tested include: Site 9RI333, Site 9RI337. Site 9RI348, Site 9RI349, Site 9RI352, Site 9RI484, Site 9RI488, Site 9RI202, Site 9RI475, Site 9RI122, Site 9RI376 (figure 1).
