Abstract

Under a continuing services contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Panamerican Consultants, Inc. (PCI) conducted an intensive archaeological survey of 1,350 acres (546.6 hectares) of wooded uplands within Fort Benning Military Reservation, Chattahoochee County, Georgia. These tracts, referred to by Fort Benning Range Control as Compartments I-1 and I-5, are located in the Sand Hills ecotone region of the Chattahoochee River drainage basin. A total of 50 archaeological sites and isolated finds were documented (Sites 9CE1157-1206). Six of these loci are recommended as potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places; the remaining 44 are recommended as ineligible.
