Abstract

Project STP-018-1(71) would construct turn lanes at the intersection of US 411/SR 61 and SR 136 in Gordon County. The proposed project on US 411/SR 61 would begin at M.P. 12.34 and end at M.P. 12.56. The proposed project on SR 136 would begin at M.P. 23.38 and end at M.P. 23.53. The existing right-of-way on US 411/SR 61 is approximately 60.9 meters (200 feet), while the existing right-of-way on SR 136 is approximately 36.5 meters (120 feet). The additional required right-of-way needed for the proposed project will be a maximum of approximately 7.6 meters (25 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or potentially eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.".
