Abstract

In May 1997, R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a cultural resources survey of the Bashforth Land Exchange tract located on and adjacent to National Park Service land (Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area) in Fulton County, Georgia. The entire exchange tract includes approximately 2.2 acres surrounding the Bashforth residence and a road improvement corridor that is approximately 1,850 feet long and 10 feet wide. The survey was conducted to locate and identify cultural resources and assess resource significance based on National Register of Historic Places criteria [36 CFR Part 60.4(d)]. One late 19th/ early 20th century house site was detected on the road improvement corridor. The site has been severely disturbed by previous road construction and erosion and is considered ineligible for the National Register. No other cultural resources were identified in the project area. Based on the survey findings, clearance is recommended for the Bashforth Land Exchange tract.
