Archaeological Reassessment of Project P01-082, Pickens County

Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto and amendments thereto, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act of 1991, project 01-082, Pickens County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project PO 1-082 would consist of the construction of a driveway for a new hospital in the city of Jasper along SR 515/Zell Miller Parkway. Construction of the driveway would take place on the so th bound side of SR 515/Zell Miller Parkway would begin approximately 1,774 feet south of the centerline of Salem Church Road and terminate at M.P. 5.485. Existing right-of-way along SR 515/Z ll Miller Parkway varies with a maximum of 440 feet. The total length of the project is 3,206 feet. No additional right-of-way will be required. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.
