Abstract

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc., conducted an intensive archaeological survey of the proposed location for the Turkey Creek 115/25 kV substation in Dooly County, Georgia. The proposed substation site encompasses approximately six acres. The Area of Project Effect (APE) of this project includes the entire six acres. The site is located on the west side of Templeton Road, south of the North Americus-Pitts 115 kV transmission line at structure number 76. The purpose of this investigation was to identify potentially significant archaeological sites within the APE. Archaeologists excavated shovel tests and examined available surface exposures within the proposed Turkey Creek substation site on June 13, 2012. No archaeological sites were identified within the APE.
