Abstract

This project is a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) infrastructure project that will improve pedestrian and bicycling accessibility for students within a 2-mile radius of Centennial Elementary School, New Holland Elementary School, Fair Street Elementary School, Enota Elementary School, and Gainesville Middle School in Gainesville, Georgia. New sidewalk will be installed along the south side of Jesse Jewell Parkway beginning at Prior Street and ending at the existing sidewalk west of the intersection with South Enota Drive, along the east side of Downey Boulevard from Hamilton Place to Sherwood Park Drive, along the north side of Myrtle Street from Auburn Avenue to Central Avenue, along the south side of Hazel Street from Central Avenue to the existing sidewalk west of the intersection with Auburn Avenue, along the west side of Park Hill Drive from South Enota Drive to Roper Hill Road, along the north side of Park Street from St. Charles Drive to South Enota Drive, and along the north side of Century Place/Woods Mill Road from Gainesville High School to Woods Mill Academy. All sidewalks would be 5-feet wide, constructed within the existing right-of-way (ROW), and would comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG), and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) requirements. Curb cuts, curb and gutter, and signage would be placed and/or replaced along the border and where needed.
