Abstract

The proposed undertaking would replace two existing, non-historic, structurally deficient and functionally obsolete two-lane bridges along SR 119 over the Ogeechee River (GDOT Bridge No. 031 -0050-0) on the Bulloch/Effingham county line and the overflow bridge (GDOT Bridge No. 031-0049-0) to the west in Bulloch County. The existing bridge over the Ogeechee River is 683 feet long and 32 feet wide out to out (26 feet wide gutter to gutter). The existing overflow bridge is 385 feet long and 28.2 feet wide out to out (27 feet wide gutter to gutter). The proposed replacement bridges would include two 12-foot lanes with eight-foot shoulders. During concept development, it will be determined if the bridges could be replaced on the same alignment, or if an alignment shift is needed to maintain traffic. No new right-of-way (ROW) would be required if the bridges are replaced on the same alignment. If an alignment shift is necessary, approximately 25 feet of additional ROW would be needed.

The APE is 5,712 feet in length and encompassed both bridges and the roadway approaches. The width of the APE encompasses a 1 00-foot ROW from the centerline on each side of the bridge. A 100-foot Extended Survey Corridor (ESC) beyond the APE was surveyed as well.

No previously recorded sites were identified within a one-kilometer radius of the APE. No prior surveys crossed or included portions of the present APE.
