Abstract

The purpose of this safety project is to relocate an undetermined number of electric distribution and telephone poles for a project length of 6.04 miles along State Route (SR) 9 from Spring Street NW to City Street (CS) 31/Windsor Parkway in Fulton County, Georgia. The poles are currently within the sidewalk or existing right of way (ROW) and close to the curb. This project would move the poles back from the roadway as far as feasible, typically 1 to 5 feet. Work would include auguring for the new pole location and removal of the selected poles. Once the relocation of the poles is complete, the various utilities, boxes, and private service lines will be transferred to the new pole line. At the removal location, the hole will be appropriately backfilled or filled with concrete, smoothed, and leveled to the existing grade. All work will be done with existing ROW, which ranges from 70 to 80 feet in width. A portion of this project has already be programmed under Georgia Department of Transportation project P.I. No. 0007072. P.I. No. 0007072 is currently under construction and received its own environmental review (Erickson 2005). No work for this project will be taking place in this area from Peachtree Way NE to E Andrews Dr. NW.

The APE for this survey consists of the shoulder/sidewalk on either side of the roadway within existing ROW along SR 9 for the entire project length of 6.04 miles. No roadway changes or impacts to pavement are expected. Due to the nature of the work and in coordination with Heather Mustonen, Archaeology Team Lead, the extended survey corridor (ESC) was not surveyed for this project. There are no previously recorded sites within the APE; however, there are six previously recorded site within a 1-kilometer radius of the APE.
