Abstract

The purpose of this project is to replace Bridge 195-5042-0 carrying Transco Road over Scull Shoal Creek in Madison County (Figure 1). The existing Right-of-Way (ROW) measures approximately 50 feet from centerline. The bridge is I 05 feet long. No temporary roadways or bridges were proposed for this project. This bridge replacement project is a candidate for the Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP). These projects allow for a quick program delivery and limit impacts to sensitive environmental resources.

The project was originally surveyed in 2017 for archaeological resources. Changes to the project have occurred since the original archaeological assessment. The original project limits for the project were 300 feet from either end of the structure. The project limits have been extended 187 feet to the north and 215 feet to the south to total approximately 500 feet from either end of the structure. All work will be restricted to existing row, which measures 50 feet on either side of the centerline.

The addendum Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this survey consists of two areas on the north and south end of the project not previously covered by the original survey. No extended survey corridor (ESC) was required for this project. There are no previously recorded archaeological sites inside the addendum APE for this project. There is one site within a 1-kilometer radius of the survey area. 9MD8 was reported by local citizens as a pre-contact lithic and ceramic scatter. The eligibility of the site is not stated on the site form.
