Abstract 10191.
The purpose of this project is to replace a structurally deficient bridge (Structure ID 217-0046-0) carrying County Road (CR) 213/FAS 1246 over West Bear Creek in Newton County, Georgia (Figure 1). This bridge replacement project is a candidate for the Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP). These projects allow for a quick program delivery and are not intended to go beyond existing right-of-way (ROW) or impact sensitive environmental resources. The project limits extend 500 feet from either end of the structure. All work will be restricted to existing row, which measures 60 feet.
The Area of Potential Effect (APE) consists of an Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB). The ESB is intended to encompass all potential design changes for the proposed project. The survey limits of the ESB are 500 feet from either end of the structure and existing ROW. Overall the length of the APE is 1,022 feet in length and 60 feet in width. In consultation with Heather Mustonen, Archaeology Team Leader, the Expanded Survey Corridor (ESC) was waived for this project.
There are no previously recorded archaeological sites within the survey area. There is one previously recorded archaeological site within 1 kilometer of the survey area. 9NE 186 is recorded as a lithic scatter and was recommended ineligible.
