Abstract

These projects would improve intersections at Moore and Gaines Streets at U.S. 441/S.R. 29 and at Roberson Street and U.S. 80/S.R. 19. A survey consistent with the projects limits was conducted.

An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during

the initial identification of archaeological resources.

No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project would have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.

The subject projects represent proposed intersection improvements in Dublin on State Route 29 at West Gaines Street and Moore Street and on State Route 19 at Robertson Road. Under Project FR-042-2(32), widening would take place on the south side of West Gaines Street to provide for left turn movements for east and westbound traffic from West Gaines onto State Route 29. The existing 30 feet of pavement would be widened to 36 feet to create a 1 0-foot 1eft turn lane, 100 feet long with a 50-foot taper, on the east and west sides of the intersection. Striping would be shifted as needed. Radii on all corners of the intersection would be increased to facilitate turning movements. Also under Project FR-042-2(32), widening would take place on the north side of Moore Street to provide for left-turn movements for east and westbound traffic from Moore Street onto State Route 29. The existing 30 feet of pavement would be widened to 36 feet to create a 10-foot center turn lane, 100 feet long with a 100-foot taper on the east side of the intersection and 150 feet 1ong with a 150-foot taper on the west side. Also, a right-turn 1ane would be provided for southbound traffic on State Route 29. The existing 35 feet of pavement would be widened on the west side to include a 12-foot right turn lane, 100 feet long with a 100-foot taper. Radii would be increased on all corners of the intersection to facilitate turning movements.

Project FR-005-3(19) would pro vi de for 1 eft turn storage for east and west bound traffic on State Route 19 at the intersection of Robertson Street. The existing 20-foot wide median would be reduced to eight feet to create a 12-foot wide bay, 100 feet long with a 100-foot taper.
