Abstract

In compliance with federal laws and regulations, a cultural resources survey was conducted within selected tracts of the Chattahoochee National Forest, Armuchee Ranger District, Chattooga, Gordon, Walker, and Whitfield Counties, Georgia. This project resulted in a reconnaissance level archaeological survey of 2,632 acres (1,053 ha). Forty-six archaeological manifestations were recorded or revisited within the project area, and recommendations were made as to site classification relevant to National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria (Table 1). Eleven of these sites are considered potentially eligible for the NRHP. This project was conducted for the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, under the terms of Contract Number 43435H-1-0489, by Panamerican Consultants, Inc.
