Abstract

The proposed project would include an incentive payment to the local governing authority for the closure of an at-grade roadway/railroad crossing in the city of Boston, Georgia in Thomas County. The crossing is at Stephens Street (CS 827) and the CSX Railroad. Incentive funds paid to the city will be used for future safety upgrades proposed to be restricted to within the existing right-of-way adjacent to the crossing; no new right-of-way or easements are anticipated.

Pursuant to the September 2007 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Highway Administration (FHW A), the State Historic Preservation Officer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (SHPO), and the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project is considered an undertaking as defined in 36 CFR 800.16(y), however, it has been determined there is no potential to affect historic properties included in or considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
