Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-115-1(9), White County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would widen and reconstruct SR 17/SR 75 northwest of Helen for approximately 731.52 meters (2400 feet). The project would begin approximately 121.92 meters (400 feet) east of the SR 356 and SR 17/SR 75 intersection then continue northwesterly along SR 17/SR 75 to an end point approximately 60.96 meters (200 feet) northwest of the SR 75 Alt. and SR 17/SR75 intersection. Existing right-of-way on SR 17/SR 75 is approximately 30.5 meters (100 feet), while the proposed additional required right-of-way will vary from 0 to 7.62 meters (0 to 25 feet). An archaeological survey

consistent with the proposed rights-of-way was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
