Abstract

"In compliance with Section I 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-115-1 (9), White County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

Project STP-115-1 (9) would widen and reconstruct SR 17/SR 75 northwest of Helen in White County.

The proposed project would begin approximately 400 feet east of the SR 356 and SR 17/SR 75 intersection then continue northwesterly to an end point approximately 200 feet northwest of the SR 75

Alternate. The existing right-of-way on SR 17/SR 75 is approximately I 00 feet, while a maximum of approximately 225 feet of additional required right-of-way would be needed for slope maintenance and project construction. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
