Abstract

This project is the proposed widening of sections of Panola Road north and south of Interstate 20 in DeKalb County. South of I-20 the roadway will be widened from Thompson Mill Road to Minola Road and north of I-20 the roadway will be widened from Snapfinger Woods Drive to Covington Highway.

The section of Panola Road between Minola Road and Snapfinger Woods Drive is covered by GDOT Project M-9310(3) which includes widening the roadway and the bridge over I-20, re-aligning the frontage roads and reconstructing the ramps. The environmental assessment for this project has been cleared by the Federal Highway Administration.

The proposed improvements covered by Project M-9310(4) will be the widening of the existing two lane Panola Road to a five lane urban section consisting of 4 twelve foot ·travel lanes divided by a continuous 14 foot center turn lane with concrete curb and gutter on each side of the roadway. This roadway section will match the tie in with the roadway section covered by Project M-9310(3).

The existing right of way on Panola Road is 60 feet. The m~n1mum requirement for the proposed 5 lane section will be 86 feet. Therefore, the proposed project will require an additional 26 feet of right of way.
