Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, BRS-0785 (10), Oglethorpe County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project consists of the replacement of the bridge on SR 22 over Brooks Creek approximately 4.0 km (2.49 mi) south of the city of Lexington in Oglethorpe County. The proposed project would begin approximately 255 m (836.7ft) south of Brooks Creek and would end approximately 310 m (1017.1ft) north of Brooks Creek. Existing right-of-way varies from approximately 30 m (100ft) to 90 m (295.3ft). Additional required right-of-way would vary from approximately 6 .5 m (21.3ft) to 30 m (98.4ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor.
