Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project F-038-1(19), Emanuel Co., has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

Present plans indicate that S. R. 4 (U.S. 1) will be widened symmetrically to provide a four-lane rural section with a continuous two-way left turn, from the Swainsboro City Limit to East Road. Existing right-of-way is 100 feet from the City Limit to Youmans Avenue. Up to 32 feet of additional right-of-way will be required in this section. Existing right-of-way is 60 to 80 feet from Youmans Avenue to East Road. An additional 25 feet of right-of-way will be required south of existing right-of-way in this section.
