Abstract

"In compliance with Section 10 6 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-1833 (10), Twiggs County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would construct passing lanes on SR 96 between Interstate 16 and Jeffersonville. The total length of the proposed project is approximately 2.58 km (1.6 mi). The existing right-of-way is approximately 24.38 m (80ft). The proposed required right-of-way would vary from 0 to 15.24 m (0 to 50ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
