Abstract

"In compliance with Section 1 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-1253(5), Peach County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

Project STP-1253(5) is the relocation of SR 42 on new location in Byron, Georgia. The proposed project would begin on SR 42 approximately 500 meters (1640 feet) west of the SR 42 / CR 183 intersection. The proposed new location segment would leave the existing SR 42 alignment approximately 60 meters (200 feet) west of the SR 42 / CR 183 intersection then continue southeasterly to an end point at SR 49 approximately 274 meters (900 feet) southwest of the SR 49 / Church Street intersection. The proposed new location alignment would utilize a maximum of approximately 70 meters (230feet) of additional required right-of-way . An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.
