Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act of 1991, project PR-145(283), Treutlen County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) . The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed Project on CR 145 and CR 160 consists of grading, drainage, base and surfacing. The proposed project on CR 145 would begin in the city of Soperton and continue southerly for approximately 1.1 km (0.7 mi.) to an ending point at CR 218. The proposed project on CR 160 would begin approximately 1.2 km (.8 mi.) south of Soperton and would continue easterly for approximately 0.80 km (0.5 mi.) to an ending point at CR 131. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project's rights-of-way was conducted for the entire 2.0 km (1.3 mi.) project corridor.
