Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site is located at 4902 Highway 52 E, Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed approximate 55-foot by 55-foot (17-meter by 17-meter) lease area that would include a 290-foot overall height self-supporting telecommunication structure. The proposed self-supporting telecommunications tower would be accessible by an existing access/drive and would receive utilities from the existing ground-level support equipment located approximately 60 feet (18 meters) to the southeast.

This Archaeological Evaluation was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we identified no previously recorded archaeological sites and two previously recorded archaeological surveys (3066 and 7041) within a 1-mile background research radius. The previously recorded archaeological surveys are not located within or near the APE for direct effects for the proposed undertaking.

ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
