Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-018-1(75), Carroll County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

Project STP-018-1(75) consists of intersection improvements at SR 61/CR 394 and CR 945/0ld SR 61 in Carroll County. Intersection improvements at SR 61 and CR 394 would include the construction of left tum lanes on CR 394 and a right tum deceleration lane on SR 61. Intersection improvements at CR 945 and Old SR 61 would include the reconstruction of the intersection to provide for right-in and right-out turns only. Also, the proposed project would include signalization upgrades at both intersections. The existing right-of-way for the proposed project is as follows: SR 61/250 feet; CR 394/60 feet; CR 945/80 feet; Old SR 61/80 feet. All proposed project construction is restricted to within the existing rights-of-way with the exception of approximately 20 feet needed at CR 394 for left tum lane construction. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
