Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the following District Five bridge projects were surveyed for archaeological sites that could be considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places:

County                                                                  Project #

Bulloch                                                                  BRZLB-031(2)

Chatham                                                               BRF-009-2(53)

formerly F-009-2(49)

McIntosh                                                              SP-131

Survey methods included visual inspections of the project location, subsurface testing where warranted and/or consultation with bridge design plans. No archaeological sites were noted during the inspection.

Therefore, there should not be any foreseeable effects on the State archaeological resources.

Georgia DOT Project # SF-131 is an in place bridge replacement project at SR 131, Bakers and Harris Neck Creeks in McIntosh County (District 5). Because the project is in place, no new areas will be impacted. Only those areas which have been disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected. For this reason, no archaeological field inspection is necessary and the archaeological resources of the state will not be affected.
