Abstract

PPL-155(25), DeKalb-Henry County and BHF-165-1(25), DeKalb County: With the exception of the bridge replacement over the South River, the proposed project has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed action represents a proposal to add two passing lanes (one southbound and one northbound) on State Route 155 in the South DeKalb/Henry County Line area and the necessary bridge widening over the South River to accommodate for the additional lanes at this river crossing. The northbound passing lane is proposed to begin at the DeKalb/Henry county line and extend northerly crossing the South River, thence continuing in a northeasterly direction to mile post 1.6 in DeKalb County. The southbound passing lane is to begin south of Ward Road in Henry County and extend northerly into DeKalb County, whereupon continuing northerly across the South River to mile post 0.9. The proposed bridge widening will take place on the eastside of the existing bridge and consist of widening the 44 foot bridge to a total of 68 feet. Approximately 20 feet of additional right-of-way will be required for the improvements.
