Abstract

The proposed project would construct and pave 2 feet of the existing shoulders, left and right followed by resurfacing on State Route 177. Earth shoulders are to be reconstructed from a maximum distance of 4' from the edge of new pavement for the purpose of providing a smooth grade transition. The project would begin at the intersection of SR's 89 and 94 in Clinch County (M.P. 0.00) and end at a dead end in Charlton County (M.P. 2.60) for a total distance of 17.67 miles. No additional right-of-way will be required.

However, this implementation of this undertaking does not have the potential to cause effects to historic properties a defined in 36 CFR 800.16(i). Because of the nature and scope of the proposed project, no potential to register "the characteristics of a historic property qualifying it for inclusion in or eligibility for the National Register'' exists. The scope of this project is included within the Programmatic Agreement between the HPD, GDOT, and FHWA for minor highway projects.

Therefore, in accordance with 36 CFR 800.3( I) there is a finding of no potential to cause effects for this proposed project. This finding fulfills the Department's obligations under Section I 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
