Reevaluation for Project EDS-441(30), Banks County-The widening, reconstruction, and new construction of U.S. 441/S.R. 15 between Homer and Baldwin

Abstract

The approved concept proposed the widening, reconstruction, and new construction of U.S . 441 /S.R. 15 from C.R. 230 to C.R. 150. The project would begin on U.S. 441 /S.R. 15 approximately 1000 feet north of C.R. 230. The project would then transition onto new location and continue northwest for approximately 1.5 miles, parallel to and approximately 0.25 mile west of C.R. 184, to C.R. 187 where it would join existing S.R. 198. For the next 1.5 miles, S.R. 198 would be used as northbound lanes for the relocated U.S. 441 /S.R. 15 and two new lanes would be constructed on the west side. Approximately 0.3 miles north of C.R. 186, the widening would shift to the east side for approximately 0.5 mile to C.R. 201 at Hollingsworth. At C. R. 201 the project would transition back onto new location and continue west for approximately one mile, parallel to and approximately 500 feet east of existing U.S. 441/S .R. 15, to C.R. 150. The project would include several crossings of Little Nails Creek and intersections with C.R.'s 186, 187, 201, and 198. The length of the project is approximately 4.5 miles. The typical section would be four 12 foot lanes separated by a 44 foot grassed median. The existing right-of-way is 100 feet on U.S. 4412/S.R. 15 and 80 feet on S.R. 198. Total required right-of-way would vary from 250 to 300 feet. Under the revised concept, the project would begin at C.R. 105 rather than C.R. 230 and end at C.R. 198 rather than C.R. 150. These changes would revise the length of the project to approximately 6.2 miles. Also, the section of the project along S.R. 198 has been shifted 20 -30 feet further west to avoid residential property impacts. Required right-of-way now varies from 250 to 400 feet. An exception is in the area between C.R. 230 and S.R. 198 where as much as 600 feet would be required. There are no changes in the typical sect ion. Required right-of-way for various intersection relocations has also been defined.
