Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB- 207(5), Monroe County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The bridge over Toblers Creek on Clopper Road (Co. Rd. #45) will be replaced. The project will begin 225 feet south of the creek and will terminate 350 feet north of the creek. The proposed centerline will shift south of existing slightly, rounding out the curve in the north approach. The proposed bridge will be placed just south of the existing structure. Required right-of-way is 100 feet throughout the project length. M archaeological survey (level II) was conducted in accordance with NGDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines 11 developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists and DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys of transportation projects, and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
