Abstract

The proposed project would replace the geometrically and structurally deficient bridge on Dicks-Waters Creek Road/FH-34-1 over Dicks-Waters Creek in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The existing approximate 3.6 X 12.5 meter (11.9' X 41.0') structure would be replaced by an approximate 4.9 X 24.4 meter (16' X 80') bridge on existing location. The proposed project would begin approximately 45.7 meters (150 feet) west of Dicks-Waters Creek and would end approximately 45.7 meters (150 feet) east of Dicks-Waters Creek for at total project length of approximately 0.1 kilometers (0.06 miles). The existing right-of-way is the width of the existing bridge, approximately 3.6 meters (11. 9 feet). Approximately 24.4 meters (80 feet) of total right-of-way would be required. Right-of-way would be acquired symmetrically. Approximately 7.6 meters (25 feet) of temporary construction easement would be required south (upstream) of the existing structure for detour. No right-of-way would be acquired from Forestry lands and no Forestry lands would be environmentally affected by the proposed project. ยท The substandard bridge width is proposed as a result of requests from locals in the project area who wish to minimize traffic capacity and environmental effects to this ecologically sensitive area. Dicks-Waters Creek is a trophy trout stream. Traffic would be maintained during construction with an onsite detour. Approximately 15.2 meters (50 feet) of departmental Bailey Bridge would be placed south (upstream) of the existing structure.
