Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, archaeological surveys were conducted with the following projects between March 21-23, 1979. Bridge Project BR0lb-0243(1), Randolph County was surveyed. Survey methods included a visual search of exposed ground surfaces and randomly placed shovel tests 12-18’’ deep. One of the project's (*) was cleared by inspection of the plans; replacement is to be in-line and should not affect additional undisturbed acreage. Though archaeological material was found bordering some of the projects, all of the artifacts (Historic and Prehistoric) were from disturbed contexts. Therefore, construction activities should not encounter significant cultural resources in these projects. The activity is the proposed construct 'on of approaches to and bridge over Cemocheochobe Creek crossing a county road southwest of Coleman, Georgia. Approximately 3700 cubic yards of embankment material will be discharged below the 100 year high water elevation and will cover approximately 0.7 acre. The material will be obtained from sources within the area. Bridge end rolls will be protected with stone rip rap.
