Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted an archeological survey of the 187 ac Lewis tract presently owned by Albion Kaolin. The purpose of the survey was to assess the likelihood of an Indian burial ground or Indian graves existing on the tract, an assertion made by some local residents. The tract was surveyed by the principal investigator on October 9, 10 and 11, 1989 using standard survey procedures. No direct or indirect evidence of Indian graves was encountered and it is the opinion of the principal investigator that it is highly unlikely that Indian graves exist on the tract. Two prehistoric archeological sites were discovered by this survey and are described in this report. Neither of these appear to be significant sites.
